We present a study of the modification of crystalline electric field (CEF)
energy level scheme of the Van Vleck paramagnet PrNi5 when Pr-ions are subs
tituted by magnetic Nd-ions using point-contact (PC) spectroscopy. We have
observed two peaks, one at 1.5 meV and another at 4 meV, associated with CE
F transitions. The peak at 1.5 meV does not appear in PrNi5 compound and is
a consequence of the now allowed transition from ground to the first excit
ed level when introducing Nd-ions.
