This paper addresses the improvement of numerical integration results provi
ded by both general purpose codes and special codes, when integrating oscil
latory problems. This improvement is achieved by means of a technique of av
erage: the first approximation of Kryloff and Bogoliuboff. Numerical exampl
es are given, including the numerical integration of the satellite problem.
The results are compared with some symplectic integrators. (C) 1999 Elsevi
