Water saving Is important for agricultural practice in and region. To reduc
e irrigation water, the fuzzy logic was applied to the control of water con
tent in drip irrigation. Water content and Its change were adopted as the f
uzzy variables. Fuzzy rules for the control were constructed and the weight
ed counting algorithm was employed for the fuzzy inference. Cropping experi
ments using melon plant were earned out for six kinds of applications. From
the investigation of fruit yield, the controlled irrigation effectively ma
de It possible to save water by 20 to 30% of conventional water use. Thus,
It could be concluded that the fuzzy control Is useful for saving water in
