K. Runge et al., Chemical potential and symmetry properties for excess electrons on polymernanoparticles: quantum drops, CHEM P LETT, 299(3-4), 1999, pp. 352-357
Quantum drops, polymer nanoparticles with excess electrons, can be produced
in a monodispersed aerosol from solution. The electronic properties of exc
ess charges on the polymer nanoparticles are predicted to be analogous to t
hose of semiconductor quantum dots and hence these structures are referred
to as quantum drops. Quantum drops have controllable physical properties in
cluding radius, composition, chemical potential and magnetic properties and
can be obtained in the gas phase. We consider the chemical potential and s
ymmetry point groups of electrons confined on the surface of these spherica
l polymer nanoparticles, using a model Hamiltonian and semiclassical quanti
zation. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
