Abstract
Temperarure-dependent magnetic susceptibility measurements of the bis[iron( III)] complex [Cp* (dppe) Fe-C=C-C=C-Fe (dppe) Cp*] [PF6](2) (1) and its an alog [Cp*(dppe)Fe-C=C-C6H4-C=C-Fe(dppe) Cp*][PF6](2) (2) [Cp* = pentamethyl cyclopentadienyl, dppe = ethylenebis(diphenylphosphine)] showed antiferroma gnetic behavior. Isotropic spin only models of the data for 1 and 2 derived magnetic exchange coupling constants of J= -18.2 and -1.0 cm(-1) respectiv ely. The singlet tripler energy gap is sufficiently weak to render the comp lexes 1 and 2 paramagnetic at liquid nitrogen temperature. (C) Academie des sciences/Elsevier, Paris.
