Abstract
The phase diagram of the binary system (Li, K)NO3 has been obtained by dire ct and differential thermal analysis techniques between 323 and 630 K. This system is characterized by a eutectic point (58 % mol KNO3, 407 +/- 1 K) a nd a peritectic reaction at 412 +/- 1 K. A plateau due to the solid-solid t ransition of KNO3 is observed at 403 +/- 1 K. An intermediate compound KLi( NO3)(2) appears at 333 +/- 1 K and melts uncongruently at 412 +/- 1 K. It e xhibits two phase transitions in the solid state, at 402 +/- 1 and 406 +/- 1 K respectively. It seems that there is no reciprocal miscibility in the s olid state.
