The phase diagram of the binary system (Li, K)NO3 has been obtained by dire
ct and differential thermal analysis techniques between 323 and 630 K. This
system is characterized by a eutectic point (58 % mol KNO3, 407 +/- 1 K) a
nd a peritectic reaction at 412 +/- 1 K. A plateau due to the solid-solid t
ransition of KNO3 is observed at 403 +/- 1 K. An intermediate compound KLi(
NO3)(2) appears at 333 +/- 1 K and melts uncongruently at 412 +/- 1 K. It e
xhibits two phase transitions in the solid state, at 402 +/- 1 and 406 +/-
1 K respectively. It seems that there is no reciprocal miscibility in the s
