A high-speed, low-noise transimpedance amplifier has been implemented
in 0.8 mu m digital CMOS technology. Featuring a broadband input sourc
e-follower stage, the amplifier has an effective transimpedance gain o
f 66.5dB Omega (2110 Omega), consuming 155mW. The measured input noise
current density of amplifier is 4.6pA/root Hz, with equivalent input
sensitivity of -24dBm at 1 Gbit/s for 10(-12) bit error rate (BER). To
the authors' knowledge, this is the first gigabit transimpedance ampl
ifier ever demonstrated in standard CMOS technology.
