Abstract
To solve the problem of the infinite transverse energy of the pure Bes
sel beam, a new beam is introduced, which has a Gaussian envelope. Usi
ng the Bessel differential equation, we look for a series solution inv
olving a Gaussian weighting function. Compared with the Bessel-Gauss b
eam, this new beam shows much less diffraction on propagation.
