Ha. Kim et al., EFFECTS OF LASER LINEWIDTH, RABI FREQUENCY AND DETUNINGS ON ELECTROMAGNETICALLY INDUCED TRANSPARENCY IN RB ATOMS, Journal of the Korean Physical Society, 30(2), 1997, pp. 407-412
We report the effects of laser linewidth, Rabi frequency and detuning
on electromagnetically induced transparency in Doppler broadened rubid
ium atoms. With a weak probe laser and a strong coupling laser arrange
d in a Doppler-cancellation configuration, Doppler-free absorption red
uction was observed. By narrowing linewidths of the two lasers, the ab
sorption reduction increased up to 78% and the spectral linewidth of t
he transmitted probe beam approached a Rb natural linewidth. Laser lin
ewidth effects on the obtained transmission were compared with a theor
etical analysis based on a three-level atomic model. Also, we report o
n a new structure obtained when the coupling beam is slightly detuned.
