This is an empirical investigation of process-outcome-relations in psychoan
alytically oriented inpatient group psychotherapy using the Stuttgarter Bog
en and the Group Climate Questionnaire, Short Form. Additionally, relations
between the perception of self and the experience of group climate were st
udied. Three groups were investigated, in each of which patients with simil
ar clinical pictures were treated together (eating disorders; anxiety disor
ders and depressions; compulsion neurosis). Data evaluation followed both,
descriptive and arithmetically. On a descriptive level, it was found that t
he scale of the Stuttgarter Bogen entitled Emotional Relatedness differenti
ated between successful and non successful patients in all groups. Emotiona
l Relatedness developed in each group in a different way, which was interpr
eted as an effect of the different kinds of disorders. Concerning group cli
mate, successful and non successful patients revealed different perceptions
, which, however, did not correspond for all groups. It was concluded, that
the clinical picture possibly influenced the perception of the group clima
te dimensions. Correlations between Emotional Relatedness and the three sub
scales of the Group Climate Questionnaire (Engagement, Conflict and Avoidin
g) could not be proved.
