In this report, the clinical significance of gastrointestinal cancer a
ssociated glycoprotein with bisection GlcNAc structure was investigate
d by affinity assay and immunobiochemical methods. The results of 51 C
r-release assay suggested that this glycoprotein could inhibit the cyt
otoxicity of NK and LAK cells for their target cells. The results of e
nzyme-linked immunoassay suggested that the expression of gastric canc
er associated glycoproteins with bisection GlcNAc oligosaccharides str
ucture was higher in serum of the patient with gastrointestinal cancer
than that in serum of the patient with benign disease. (p<0.001). The
sensitivity of this analysis procedure were 59.9% (191/320) for diagn
osis of gastric cancer and 64.1% (100/156) for diagnosis of colorectal
cancer. Its speciality was 91.8% for diagnosis of tumor. The results
also indicated that the level of gastric cancer oligosaccharides in se
rum related to the differentiation type of cancer and the immunologica
l activity of LAK cells. The present study provided a new approach for
research on tumor marker and glycosylation associated with gastro-int
estinal cancer.
