C70Br14 was obtained by bromination of fullerene C-70 in liquid bromin
e or the solvents 1,1,2,2-tetrachlorethane and CS2, respectively. The
compound was characterized by elemental analysis, thermal analysis, C-
13-solid-state-NMR and powder diffraction. The lattice parameters are
a=32.09(2), b=10.731(7), c=18.135(6) Angstrom, beta=110.92(4)degrees,
V=5834(4) Angstrom(3), Z=4. At room temperature C70Br14 decomposes slo
wly to less bromine containing samples. Thermal analysis (heating rate
5 degrees/min) shows decomposition to C-70 and Br-2 at 134,9 degrees
C.
