Abstract
The acid-base analysis method described by Fend and based on Stewart's prin ciples was applied to sheep, to obtain baseline data. The parameters measur ed were venous pH, pCO(2) HCO3-, PCV albumin, Na+ Cl-, glucose and BUN. The calculated parameters were BEfw BEua, BECl BEalb, SID, AG and serum osmola lity. The possible variations of the Fend's parameters have been discussed The main conclusion is that this new approach gives a deeper knowledge of t he acid-base status than traditional approaches although it is difficult to give a predictive value by Fencl's method: in clinical applications. In th is sense, the Henderson-Hasselbalch equation maintains its traditional valu e.
