S. Oshio et al., Firing technique for preparing a BaMgAl10O17 : Eu2+ phosphor with controlled particle shape and size, J ELCHEM SO, 146(1), 1999, pp. 392-399
The effects of firing temperature on the crystallinity and the luminescent
properties of BaMgAl10O17:Eu2+ phosphor have been investigated over the tem
perature range 1000-1800 degrees C under preparative conditions which do no
t use any flux such as AlF3. The effects of particle shape and size of the
ingredient Al2O3 on the phosphor have also been studied under a preparative
condition which has a firing temperature of 1700 degrees C and does not us
e any flux. A single-phase BaMgAl10O17:Eu2+ with sufficient luminescent pro
perties can be obtained over a firing temperature range of 1600-1800 degree
s C through formation of the intermediate product BaAl2O4:Eu2+. Furthermore
, the particle shape and size of the ingredient Al2O3 determine the particl
e shape and size of BaMgAl10O17:Eu2+. High-temperature tiring in the absenc
e of any flux has provided for the preparation of a single-phase BaMgAl10O1
7:Eu2+ with various particle shapes, such as spherical or platelike, and pa
rticle sizes ranging from 2 to 18 mu m (C) 1999 The Electrochemical Society
