Abstract
The degree of miniaturization established to date allows the implantation o f the whole sensor system in single tread elements and thus provides the po tential for research on tires close to series production. The sensor is bas ed on a magnetic principle and is able to measure the tread element deforma tion in 3 dimensions. In a free-rolling tire, the flattening of the tire ca used by the wheel load and the resulting kinematic stress lead to a deforma tion which requires part of the local friction potential.
