D. Mccaskill et R. Croteau, Strategies for bioengineering the development and metabolism of glandular tissues in plants, NAT BIOTECH, 17(1), 1999, pp. 31-36
Glandular tissues in plants produce a wide variety of commercially importan
t chemicals. We review specific model systems that can be exploited for bio
engineering the development and metabolism of these specialized structures,
and the economic considerations that must be satisfied to permit commercia
lly viable bioengineering approaches to specific chemicals and that constra
in the choice of production systems.
