Vi. Kopeikin et al., Searches for the neutrino magnetic moment in a time-dependent flux of reactor antineutrinos, PHYS ATOM N, 61(12), 1998, pp. 2109-2113
Problems associated with searches for the neutrino magnetic moment at a lev
el of 10(-11)mu(B) in experiments at nuclear reactors are considered. To ac
hieve such sensitivity, it is necessary to detect recoil electrons from <(n
u)over bar>(e) e scattering at extremely low kinetic energies. The event co
unting rate is independent of the energy spectrum of antineutrinos, but it
depends on their flux, which undergoes strong variations during the reactor
operating period. The sources of a neutrino flux are considered, and their
time dependence is studied. The developed computer code makes it possible
to describe accurately the actual operating periods including residual anti
neutrino emission during shutdown periods.
