Reaction of phenylmercury(II) acetate with HPyTd (HPyTd = (5-(2-pyridinylme
thylene)-2-thiohydantoin) yields [HgPh(PyTd)]. The complex has been charact
erized by elemental analysis and IR and NMR (H-1, C-13 and Hg-199) spectros
copy. The crystal structure of [HgPh(PyTd)].DMSO has been established by X-
ray analysis. The mercury atom is coordinated to a phenyl carbon, the thioh
ydantoin N(1) and the pyridine N in a T-shaped arrangement and is additiona
lly involved in weak Hg ... S interactions tone intra- and one intermolecul
ar). (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
