Abstract
Two dimensional manganese stearate films incorporating radioactive Mn-54 ha ve been produced using the Langmuir-Blodgett technique. Low temperature nuc lear orientation measurements on these films show a degree of magnetic orde r even in zero applied magnetic field; a result which is discussed in relat ion to the Mermin-Wagner theorem which rules out ordering of Heisenberg spi ns in low dimensional systems with continuously symmetric interactions.
