Abstract
A small perturbation introduced in the stochastic Leslie model leads t o a long-lived stable population in a region or parameter space where the stochastic model predicts the demise of the population. This somew hat surprising result is understood by considering a related model wit h a density-dependent sex ratio which exhibits similar features. (C) 1 997 Academic Press.
