The Sophus anaesthesia simulator uses a resuscitation manikin modified to p
ermit the auscultation of lung and heart sounds and production of CO2. All
parameters and curves (apart from CO2 production) are simulated using a PC
with specially designed software for Windows 95.
Since 1993 courses in ''Rational Anaesthesia" [1] have been carried out in
Denmark. The main objectives of the "Rational Anaesthesia" courses are to e
ducate participants in good leadership and communication during critical in
cidents in the operating theatre. Along with the theoretical education, the
participants undergo practical training in critical incidents in the simul
ator followed by a debriefing session using video recordings of their perfo
rmance.
