Representative World Wide Web (WWW) sites and mailing lists related to anes
thesia and intensive care in Japan are introduced here. Within 5 years, the
infrastructure of the Internet has developed markedly in Japan. Along with
this movement, the first web site on anesthesia appeared in 1994 in Japan.
Now, in 1998 over 30 web sites and at least four major mailing lists are f
lourishing, most of which are maintained by members of the Japanese society
for technology in anesthesia (JSTA). The impact of these activities is so
remarkable that they may bring major breakthroughs in the society of Japane
se medicine, a society that is considered to be very closed minded.
