Amino acids provide a versatile starting point for the synthesis of en
antiopure materials. In particular, chiral amino alcohols are useful b
uilding blocks for the synthesis of chiral azacrown ethers and cryptan
ds. In this lecture, I shall review some of our recent findings on the
syntheses of these compounds. The examples are drawn from on-going pr
ojects aiming at the syntheses of natural and non-natural compounds.
