Abstract
Echocardiographic screening of asymptomatic relatives of patients with idio pathic dilated cardiomyopathy identifies a subset with left ventricular enl argement who are assumed to have early familial idiopathic dilated cardiomy opathy. This study shows for the first time that the myocardium in such rel atives demonstrates abnormal cellularity.
