Abstract
In this paper, the physico-chemical basics of the sectional multicomponent aerosol model SEMA are described. SEMA includes condensation and evaporatio n of sulphuric acid, nitric acid, hydrogen chloride, ammonia, and water vap our. The model can be applied to predictions of the chemical composition an d size distribution of aqueous tropospheric secondary and marine aerosols. In SEMA, multicomponent thermodynamics and particle-size-dependent condensa tion and evaporation are efficiently coupled by application of a new sectio nal approach. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd.
