A. Kayal et S. Bardhan, Epistrenoceras Bentz (Ammonoidea) from the Middle Jurassic of Kutch (western India): a new record and its chronostratigraphic implication, CAN J EARTH, 35(8), 1998, pp. 931-935
The identification of late Bathonian beds and the position of the boundary
between the Bathonian and Callovian in Kutch, western India, continued to b
e elusive until recently. The dominant ammonite faunas show strong endemism
and thus are of little value in worldwide age correlations. The present pa
per records Epistrenoceras Bentz from the Patcham Formation of Jumara, whic
h is regarded as a biological stopwatch indicating only the upper Bathonian
. This find, together with other recently recorded time-diagnostic forms, n
ow resolves the uncertainties.
