A photoelectrochemical solar cell made from a porous film consisting of a m
ixture of tin (IV) and zinc oxides sensitized with a ruthenium bipyridyl co
mplex suppresses recombination of the photogenerated electrons and dye cati
ons, generating a short-circuit photocurrent of ca. 22.8 mA cm(-2) and an o
pen-circuit voltage of ca. 670 mV in direct sunlight (900 W m(-2)) with an
efficiency ca. 8 %.
