Abstract
The self-condensation of 3,4-dialkoxy-2-aminobenzaldehyde (alkoxy = n-C8H17 O, n-C10H21O and n-C12H25O) in the presence of HBF4 gives the tetrafluorobo rate salt of diprotonated octaalkoxy-TAAB which exhibits a hexagonal column ar mesophase over a wide range of temperatures including room temperature.
