Abstract
X-band (similar to 9.60 GHz) electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra of the Er3+ Kramers ion substituting for the Y3+ ion in yttrium vanadate (Y VO4) single crystal were recorded at Liquid-helium temperatures. Fine and h yperfine EPR transitions were observed for the Er-166 (Zero nuclear magneti c moment) and Er-167 (I = 7/2) isotopes, respectively. The values of the el ements of the anisotropic (g) over tilde(2)- and (A) over tilde(2)-tensors of the Er-167(3+) ion, and those of the (g) over tilde(2) tenser for the Er -166 ion, were estimated. The admixture of crystal-field wave functions in the ground-state wave function of Er3+ were determined using the experiment al g-values. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
