Fresh osteochondral allografting is a valuable procedure for resurfacing bo
th small and large articular cartilage defects in the knee. This procedure
takes advantage of the different biological properties of hyaline cartilage
and bone, allowing transplantation of living, mature cartilage, and incorp
oration of the cartilage into the recipient through osseous healing. Clinic
al outcomes have demonstrated the efficacy of this technique in the treatme
nt of a wide spectrum of articular lesions in the knee.
