Abstract
We investigated the evolutions of the cavity modes and modal retardation of high-birefringent libers by constructing single-mode liber Fabry-Perot cav ities. in such a fiber cavity, the changes of two cavity modes were differe nt at various misaligned forces and we were able to distinguish the two pri ncipal fiber axes. Verification of our approach was also experimentally car ried out by using a conventional elastooptic alignment method. Applications as fiber polarimetric sensors are also presented.
