A short and practical process for the isolation of ingenol (la) from an agr
icultural commodity (the seeds of Euphorbia lathyris) is described. Macrocy
clic diterpene esters are obtained as byproducts, and the esterification pa
ttern of the Euphorbia factors L-2 (3), L-3 (4b), and L-8 (4b) was establis
hed by 2D NMR measurements. Full spectroscopic data for these compounds are
reported.
