A new compound, CuIr2Te4, has been successfully synthesized. The X-ray expe
riments indicate that this new compound has defect NiAs structure of trigon
al symmetry with space group P (3) over bar ml. The resistivity rho and the
magnetic susceptibility chi of CuIr2Te4 have revealed the existence of hum
p-shaped maxima around 250 K on heating, 190 K on cooling, exhibiting the t
emperature hysteresis. This anomalous behavior originates presumably from a
charge-density wave formation with the partial gap at the Fermi level. (C)
