Cd1-xCoxTe single crystals were grown by the vertical Bridgman method. We m
easured the optical absorption in the range from 750 to 3000 nm at room tem
perature and at 4.8 K. Several absorption bands were detected and assigned
to electronic transitions between the splitting energy levels of Co2+ Sited
at the Td symmetry of the CdTe host lattice. The crystal-held parameter (D
q), the Racah parameter (B), and the spin-orbit coupling parameter (lambda)
were determined. In addition, the band-gap energy was obtained as a functi
on of cobalt composition x.
