R. Boot et al., Serological relationship of some V-factor dependent Pasteurellaceae (Haemophilus sp.) from guineapigs and rabbits, LAB ANIMALS, 33(1), 1999, pp. 91-94
Culture of guineapig and rabbit respiratory tracts for bacteria using X- (h
aemin) and V- (NAD) factor in agar media detected infection by V-factor dep
endent Pasteurellaceae (Haemophilus sp.) in three colonies of guineapigs an
d a group of rabbits. The 12 Haemophilus strains comprised three API NH cod
es classed as Haemophilus parainfluenzae and two codes classed as Haemophil
us aphrophilus/paraphrophilus. Six cell wall lipid profiles were detected,
but these were not related to API NH codes. Both bacteriological properties
were used to select strains for serological studies but any relationship b
etween bacteriological and serological properties of the Haemophilus strain
s was not evident. Varying serological relationships occurred between the n
ewly isolated Haemophilus strains, [Pasteurella] pneumotropica NCTC 8284 an
d Haemophilus strains previously isolated from rats.
