The composition dependence of elastic properties of mixed Cu-Zn ferrites ar
e studied using ultrasonic pulse transmission technique at 1 MHz. The value
s of Young's moduli (E), the rigidity moduli (n), Debye temperature (theta(
D)) and mean sound velocity (V-m) of mixed Cu-Zn ferrite specimens are calc
ulated from longitudinal (V-l) and shear (V-s) velocities. The elastic modu
li of the ferrites are corrected to zero porosity using Hasseleman and Fulr
aths formulae. The variation of elastic moduli with composition has been in
terpreted on the basis of binding forces between the spinel lattice. (C) 19
