Sc. Tjong et al., The dynamic mechanical response of Al2O3 and TiB2 particulate reinforced aluminum matrix composites produced by in-situ reaction, MATER LETT, 38(1), 1999, pp. 39-44
The dynamic mechanical responses of three aluminum matrix composites reinfo
rced with in-situ Al2O3 and TiB2 particulates were investigated in compress
ion at strain rates ranging from 1.7 x 10(-3) s(-1) to 1.5 x 10(3) s(-1). T
he results showed that these composites exhibit a high strain-rate sensitiv
ity. The strength and initial strain hardening rate of the composites tende
d to increase with increasing strain rate. And increasing the particulate c
ontent led to an increase in the strain-rate sensitivity of composites. Fur
thermore, composites containing Al3Ti plates exhibited the highest strain-r
ate sensitivity. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
