Abstract
The primary sensors in the gut are endocrine cells. They release peptides a nd amines that stimulate intrinsic and extrinsic neural pathways affecting gastrointestinal motor and secretory function. These regulatory mechanisms alter the digestive and absorptive capacity of the intestine to match the e ntry of a meal from the stomach.
