The difference between excited and ground atomic-momentum distributions, in
an arbitrary degenerate R-type atomic system interacting with two counterp
ropagating fields, is exploited to construct a set of analytical functions
that have features similar to the long-time atomic-momentum distributions d
ue to cooling by velocity-selective coherent population trapping [J. Opt. S
