Modifications in the short-range atom-atom probability distribution are exa
mined when strong terahertz phonon excitation is present. A description is
developed that includes the excited phonon mode amplitude explicitly and co
mbines the contributions of all other modes into local residual variables,
which allows for a clean separation of the non-local phononic part of the p
roblem and the remaining local problem. The modification of the short range
atomic correlation is computed through a solution of the Schrodinger equat
ion for the residual local variables in the classically forbidden region.
