Angle dispersive X-ray diffraction experiments have been performed in a dia
mond anvil cell using different pressure media and a large volume cell (Par
is-Edinburgh cell) in order to determine the effect of pressure-temperature
conditions on the high-pressure phase of the binary compound gallium antim
onide GaSb. In particular, fine analysis of the diffraction patterns obtain
ed at high pressure and/or temperature have clearly evidenced the importanc
e of the pressure medium and of micro-strains which considerably modified t
he structure at high pressure.
