Gamow-Teller transition strengths obtained in the I-127(p,n)Xe-127 reaction
studied at 94, 159, and 197 MeV incident proton energies are presented, an
d used to evaluate the efficiency of I-127 as a solar neutrino detector. Ex
citation of the J(pi) = (3/2)(+) first excited state at E-x = 0.125 MeV in
Xe-127, sensitive to Be-7 solar neutrinos, is evaluated. The sum of Gamow-T
eller strength up to particle emission threshold and up to 20 MeV excitatio
n energy are also reported. This paper also provides a new measurement of t
he Coulomb displacement energy Delta E-c, the excitation energy of the isob
aric analog state, and the centroid of the Gamow-Teller resonance in Xe-127
