Caffeic acid esters of phenylethanoid glycosides from Fraxinus ornus bark

A new phenylethanoid glucoside, 2-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-ethyl-O-beta-D-gluc opyranosyl-(1 --> 6)-3-O-trans-caffeoyl-beta-D-glucopyranoside, named isolu grandoside, was isolated from Fraxinus ornus bark, together with the five k nown phenylethanoid glycosides 2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-ethyl-(6-O-caffeoyl)-bet a-D-glucopyranoside, calceolarioside B, verbascoside, isoacteoside and lugr andoside. Isomerization of lugrandoside to isolugrandoside was not found un der the employed conditions of isolation and purification. (C) 1998 Elsevie r Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
