Td. Hong et Rh. Ellis, EX-SITU BIODIVERSITY CONSERVATION BY SEED STORAGE - MULTIPLE-CRITERIAKEYS TO ESTIMATE SEED STORAGE BEHAVIOR, Seed science and technology, 25(1), 1997, pp. 157-161
The majority of species of Spermatophyta show orthodox seed storage be
haviour. Ex situ biodiversity conservation by long-term seed storage i
s feasible in such species, provided seed storage behaviour has been i
dentified. Publications on this topic cover less than 3% of the specie
s of Spermatophyta, however. The development of multiple-criteria keys
to estimate likely seed storage behaviour may aid decisions on approp
riate methods of biodiversity conservation for the remaining 97%. The
pattern of variation in seed storage behaviour among Acer spp. provide
s an illustration of such keys.
