Abstract
The successful example of chiral formamides that function as asymmetric cat alysts is described. (S,S)-N,N-Bis(alpha-methylbenzyl)formamide mediates th e enantioselective addition of allyl- and crotyltrichlorosilanes to aliphat ic aldehydes with the assistance of hexamethylphosphoramide (HMPA) to affor d the corresponding homoallylic alcohols in up to 98% enantiomeric excess.
