The SmBaCuO compound is potentially attractive for developing high temperat
ure superconductor applications. In this work we deal with SmBaCuO thin fil
ms growth by means of pulsed laser ablation and deposition (PLAD). We repor
t the SmBaCuO film properties by changing the relevant deposition parameter
s, such as the laser fluence (F) and the substrate temperature (T-s). Under
suitable choice of such parameters the films show an epitaxial growth in t
he 00l direction on the crystalline MgO (100) substrate. In addition, these
films have a quite sharp superconducting transition in the resistivity beh
avior at a temperature T > 77 K. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights
