An overview of 50 years of veterinary product provision in the Netherlands

This article gives an overview of a half century of veterinary of veterinar y product provision in the Netherlands, and describes the availability of v eterinary products om 1945 and onwards. The development of antibiotics, sulfonamides, anthelmintics, endocrine prod ucts, vaccines, and other product groups is discussed briefly, The importan ce of the research carried out by leading pharmaceutical companies in colla boration with the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Utrecht and other governme ntal research institutes is stressed. This article also emphasizes the impo rtance of good and responsible product information for veterinarians. The i ntroduction of the the veterinary drug law in 1986 has had great consequenc es for the industry, distributions, and wholesalers as well as for practisi ng veterinarians.
