Abstract
(1) The light-induced phosphorylation in spinach chloroplast is coupled wit h proton transfer. (2) We investigated the effect of volatile anesthetics ( halothane, enflurane, isoflurane) on the cyclic and/or non-cyclic light-ind uced phosphorylation. (3) We used potassium ferricyanide as a Hill oxidant for non-cyclic phosphorylation and phenazin-methosulfate as an oxidation-re duction indicator for cyclic phosphorylation. (4) These three anesthetics i nhibit the Hill reaction in light induced phosphorylation. The inhibition r ate of this reaction generates concave curves with minimum values at 303 K in each of the anesthetics. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ireland Ltd. All righ ts reserved.
