A. D'Andrea et al., Clinical use of a topical carbonic anhydrase inhibitor in patients affected by chronic simple glaucoma, ACT OPHTH S, 76, 1998, pp. 36-38
A cross-over double-blind study was performed to evaluate the effect of acu
te administration of brimonidine on the blue-yellow perimetry. Thirty patie
nts with primary open-angle glaucoma were admitted. After brimonidine admin
istration, IOP and pupil diameter showed a significant reduction (p<0.01) w
ithout modification in systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Blue-on-yello
w perimetry showed a significant reduction in CPSD from 3.81+/-1.60 to 2.71
+/-1.92 (p<0.05). This result suggests that brimonidine improves ocular per
fusion via a reduction of IOP.
