Abstract
Dark red single crystal of sodium vanadyl phosphate NaVPO5 has been synthes ized by hydrothermal synthesis method and its structure has been characteri zed by single-crystal X-ray methods. It crystallizes in monoclinic space gr oup P2(1)/c with a = 0. 652 7(2) nm, b = 0. 846 2 (2) nm, c = 0. 712 0(2) n m, beta = 115. 23 (3)degrees, V = 0. 335 70 nm(3), Z = 4, The strutrure was solved by Direct Method and refined by the least saqures with R = 0. 057 a nd R-w = 0. 062. The structure can be described as a "VPO5" framework which is build up from corner-sharing VO6 octahedron parallel to the c axis, Eac h PO4 tetrahedron shares its corners with four VO6 octahedron, two of them belong to the same chain, and each VO6 octahedron share its corners with fo ur PO4 tetrahedron and two VO6 octahedron.
